Democracy is languishing in Slovakia, with its quality level remaining at a grade of 3.3 for the second quarter in a row, according to a recent survey conducted by analysts from the NGO Public Affairs Institute (IVO), the TASR newswire reported.
According to the IVO report that was released on October 15, the 3rd quarter of this year had more signs and evidence of negative trends, with the absence of systematic measures in certain areas.
Independence of the media was the worst-judged area with a rating of 3.75, with lawmakers having the best rating 2.75. Minority and human rights took a rating of 3.25 while democratic institutions and the rule of law came in at 3.5.
The rating scale is from 1 to 5, with a mark of one representing the optimal state of democracy, in line with standards and criteria applied by the European Union and the Council of Europe. TASR
