Nine applicants have submitted their curriculum vitae to become the new general director of the Slovak National Theatre (SND), said Eva Chudinová, spokesperson for the Culture Ministry, to the TASR newswire on February 20.
The ministry will announce the make-up of a selection commission later this week with the selection to take place between March 5 and 9. The deadline for submitting applications was set for February 16 with the posted date being the deadline so more applications may still arrive, according to Chudinová.
Previous SND head Ondrej Šoth, a choreographer by vocation, submitted his resignation to Culture Minister Daniel Krajcer who accepted it. Šoth said his decision was aimed at helping to calm the situation at the SND amid recent inspections of the theatre.
A recent ministry inspection of SND's management found violations of budgetary rules involving some €436,000 and police are now looking into the matter, TASR reported. Šoth became SND general director in May 2010.
