The Special Court in Pezinok on April 28 found 19 members of the former "Acid-bath Gang" guilty of defrauding the state of millions of crowns of taxes in the late 1990s and early part of this decade.
After hearing from witnesses and closing statements from prosecutors in the final stage of the trial between April 22-25, the court handed down sentences ranging from six-15 years, with three other defendants cleared of all charges, the TASR newswire wrote.
The 2000-01 "acid-bath" killings, for which the perpetrators were given life sentences at an earlier trial, eliminated at least three people, who were shot before being dissolved in acid and poured down the drain. The gang traded worthless software via a web of firms, which deprived the state of more than Sk120 million (€3.71 million) in taxes.
Gang boss František Miker, who devised the acid-bath disposal method, is thought to have followed earlier victims into the sewer system himself. TASR
