Pupils at Nitra elementary schools set a new Slovak record on June 23 for the number of children singing at the same time in one location. On Svätopluk Square, 416 students from all 14 Nitra elementary schools sang a programme of Slovak folk songs, breaking their own record set last year when 320 young singers performed in the Nitra amphitheatre. After the students’ successful performance, the record will be certified and recorded in the Book of Slovak records.
“This year, the pupils wanted to break the record and improve it by one hundred children,” Margita Sládečková of the Nitra Town Office told the TASR newswire. “Although they missed this target by four students, they were all satisfied with the result. The main thing is the record has been broken.”
The event was part of the Festival of Schools and Youth of Nitra that ran from June 22 to June 25. Besides the sing-in, festival awards were handed out for student achievements as well as for competition in games designed for two generations in which both nursery-school children and senior citizens took part.
