THE OPPOSITION failed to oust Ján Richter from the post of Minister of Labour, Social Affairs and Family. Prime Minister Robert Fico told Parliament on October 30 that he considers the proposal to oust Richter tendentious and unjustified, the TASR newswire reported.
“The proposal to dismiss Richter contains a single sentence on the minister’s failing to handle his job ... everything else that’s written in there has nothing to do with the ministry’s work,” Fico said, as quoted by TASR. “What’s been submitted is a poor imitation of a proposal [for dismissal of a minister].”
The motion to oust Richter came from the ranks of the opposition, which has given two main reasons for its proposal. The first is a subsidy of €23,000 given in August to Rudolf Kruty’s Property Seizure Office with the aim of creating only four new jobs. Another case concerns a company called Star EU, which won 70 tenders out of 70 that it took part in concerning the drawing of European funds. These tenders were organised by local authorities following a recommendation given by Richter, then Smer party’s general manager, to Smer mayors, according to TASR .
Richter called the proposal for his dismissal a poor attempt on the part of the opposition to deviate attention from their falling voter support as well as their own errors and failings during the previous term, TASR reported.
