The government will not subsidise families who buy solar panels and biomass boilers, which it promised to do in April, the Pravda daily reported.
Subsidies equalling the 19-percent VAT on this alterntive-energy equipment were expected to return to the state through higher sales of the items.
Last year, the state earned Sk22 million from VAT through the sale of solar panels. However, the cabinet failed to find the Sk100 million it needed to
launch the solar energy subsidy in next year's budget.
The subsidy was not considered during the negotiations on the 2008 state budget because of efforts to keep the general government deficit below three percent of the GDP, one of the Maastricht criteria for euro adoption, the Economy Ministry explained.
