Former manager of the non-banking company AGW, Marek Križánek, has left his position as head of purchases at the University Hospital of Louis Pasteur in Košice, the Sme daily reported referring to a social media post by independent MP Miroslav Beblavý.

The decision came after Beblavý and Jana Cigáneková of Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) told Health Minister Tomáš Drucker (Smer nominee) about his involvement with the non-banking firm, which has harmed more than 26,000 clients. The company’s head Matúš Grega was sentenced for 10.5 years, but was released after serving seven years in prison last September, the Sme daily reported.

“To be honest with Minister Drucker: except for the criticism, I want to extend my appreciation that within 24 hours since our interpellation the head of procurement at the Košice hospital, Križánek, who in the past served in the fraudulent non-banking firm AGW, has left his post,” Beblavý wrote on social network, as quoted by Sme.

The secretary of the Košice university hospital later confirmed to the daily that Križánek had asked to resign from his post. He will however remain at the hospital, working as a clerk.

The Health Ministry meanwhile asked the hospital on November 28 to check into Križánek’s past. It also recommended to the management of its organisations to take into consideration the past history of people applying for vacant positions, said its spokesperson Stanislava Luptáková, as quoted by Sme.

The Košice university hospital should find a new head of procurement using a selection procedure by the end of January 2017, Sme reported.

Before Križánek, the department was led by the nephew of ex-speaker of parliament Pavol Paška (Smer), while under the administration of the first Robert Fico government (2006-2010) it was led by Paška’s wife Jana, according to Cigáneková.
