The number of started, completed and unfinished apartments in Slovakia continues to shrink. In the first quarter of this year a total of 2,856 apartments were completed, down 17.8 percent year-on-year. The number of apartments on which construction had started dropped 7.2 percent to 2,685; and altogether 64,777 apartments were under construction at the close of March, down 1.9 percent y/y, according to the Slovak Statistics Office.
The number of apartments completed in the public sector grew by 21.6 percent. Meanwhile, the number of apartments started in the private sector fell 2.5 percent to 2,256 apartments; the public sector saw 429 apartments started, down 25.9 percent, the SITA newswire reported, citing the Statistics Office. The number of apartments under construction in the private sector went down 0.5 percent to 60,687 at the end of March, while the public sector registered an 18.5-percent fall to 4,090 apartments.
Bratislava Region reported the highest number of apartments completed over three months (755, or 26.4 percent), Nitra Region came in second (375 apartments, or 13.1 percent); the lowest number was recorded in Banská Bystrica Region (7.8 percent), the TASR newswire wrote.
