In 2012, the number of employees was 691, with 401 serving as diplomats.

The Foreign Ministry closed its representation in Kuala Lumpur and cancelled the consular functions of the general consulate in Los Angeles in 2013. The last diplomats will leave the west coast of the US in February 2014, SITA wrote.

On the other hand, in June the ministry opened an embassy in Chisinau, Moldova, and in December they are planning to open another in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.

Slovakia will thus have 90 representative offices in foreign countries as of December 1. There are 64 embassies, seven missions at international organisations, nine general consulates, one branch of a representative office, one Slovak Economic and Cultural Office and eight Slovak institutes, according to SITA.
