The number of Slovak companies registered in countries deemed tax havens significantly rose in the first half of this year. According to information released by the Czech agency ČEKIA, the number of companies registered in tax havens as of June 30 of this year increased by 7.1 percent against the same period one a year ago. The number of businesses registered in tax havens swelled from 213 to 3,208, representing 1.62 percent of all the 191,000 businesses operating in Slovakia, ČEKIA further informed.
The Netherlands, Cyprus and Luxembourg continue to be the most attractive tax havens for Slovak entrepreneurs. The biggest relative increase in the first half of the year was reported in the Seychelles, where the number of registered Slovak businesses rose by 111 percent. Analyst of ČEKIA Petra Štěpánová commented that if Slovak businesses continue the pace of joining international holdings throughout the year, it would result in the strongest outflow in the last three years. Slovakia’s current economic and political situation is most likely the impetus behind Slovak entrepreneurs relocating their seats to tax havens.
