The social security provider Sociálna Poisťovňa paid out unemployment benefits to almost 38,900 people last month.
Its spokesman Peter Višváder said this was the highest number of unemployment benefits paid in one month since mid-2005. Compared to January, the number of people who received unemployment benefits increased by 6,300. The number of people receiving unemployment benefits has surged by 13,000 – an increase of 51 percent - since the end December 2008, the SITA newswire wrote.
The unemployment rate in Slovakia rose 0.69 percentage points, to 9.72 percent, between January and February, according to data released by the Office for Labour, Social Affairs and Family. SITA
