THE CURRENT holders of the National Hockey League’s Stanley Cup, the Boston Bruins, were welcomed to the White House on January 23, the SITA newswire reported, led by their team captain Zdeno Chára from Slovakia.
US President Barack Obama praised the ice hockey team’s play during the season and also noted the height of the Slovak captain, at 2.06 metres.
“There is no better image of the Bruins’ dominance than the tallest player in the history of the NHL,” Obama said, as quoted by SITA, adding that no one had ever raised the Stanley Cup higher than Zdeno Chára did on the ice in Vancouver where the final match was played.
“It was an extraordinary day,” Chára said, as quoted by SITA. “It was a great honour to hear praise for the team and also for its individuals from the US president.”
