POLICE yesterday announced the arrest of Jozef O., the honorary consul of the Guinean Republic in Slovakia, who is suspected of being the Slovak boss of an international scam involving light motor oil.
The scam, in which tax rebates were fraudulently obtained, has cost Slovakia an estimated Sk1 billion.
Interior Minister Vladimír Palko said the crime group, of which 81 people have already been arrested, had seven different levels of management, and that Jozef O. was on the top level, the SME daily wrote.
According to Palko the gang operated in Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Hungary, and is believed to have been run by crime syndicates in the countries of the former Soviet Union.
