Representatives of the centre-right opposition will probably propose Ordinary People and Independent Personalities (OĽaNO) MP Erika Jurinová to one of the two deputy-speaker-of-parliament posts that the opposition has been offered by the ruling Smer party, outgoing Speaker Pavol Hrušovský said, as reported by the TASR newswire.
OĽaNO leader Igor Matovič did not confirm the report directly, but said Hrušovský is usually well informed.
“I think that more representatives in top politics should be women,” Matovič added, as quoted by TASR.
When it comes to the three remaining deputy-speaker posts, one is expected to be taken by the leader of the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH), Ján Figeľ, and the other two by Smer, which has yet to reveal its nominations.
The five centre-right parties that make up the new opposition will discuss the names of the nine chairs of parliamentary committees that they will nominate. Both the KDH and Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) are interested in presiding over the economy committee, while the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ) and KDH are both interested in the committee monitoring the activities of the SIS intelligence agency, TASR wrote.
