SLOVAKIA's public protector of human rights, ombudsman Pavol Kandráč, is asking for the range of his responsibilities to be extended, and he has already presented his demands to the Parliamentary Committee for Human Rights, the TASR news agency wrote.
Kandráč's spokesperson Jana Španková said that among the proposed changes is the right to submit proposals to the Constitutional Court to launch legal action if a law threatens basic human rights and liberties.
Among other new rights, Kandráč also wants to be allowed to attend parliamentary sessions, and wants his office to have its own chapter separate from the state budget.
