A Turkish ship named the Omer-N was flying the Slovak flag when it went down near the Danish coast on October 28. It was registered in Slovakia this April.
Roman Vavro, a spokesman for the Telecommunications Office, told the SITA newswire that the ship had been granted permission to operate a ship radio station based on a request registered under the name Senol Naiboglu of Istanbul, Turkey.
The ship capsized with eleven sailors on board. According to preliminary information, the ship was manned exclusively by Turks. Three of the sailors were rescued, one drowned, and seven are still missing.
The Slovak Republic has sixty ships on record that belong to private owners or companies not based in Slovakia. The Slovak Transport Ministry told SITA that the Italian classification society RINA permitted the ship's registration. SITA
