One-third of all Slovaks said their living standards have worsened over the past four years while one in five Slovaks have seen an improvement, according to a survey carried out by the Polis Slovakia agency, the TASR newswire wrote.
According to the survey, which was carried out between February 18 and 21 on a sample of 1,071 respondents over age 18, as many as 54 percent of the respondents claim that the current government has failed to respond sufficiently to the negative impacts of the economic crisis, while only 30 percent say that the Slovak government’s performance in fighting the crisis has been good.
In addition, the survey revealed that people see corruption and cronyism as the heaviest burden vis-à-vis correct social policies, TASR wrote on February 22. Another 45.5 percent of the respondents think that seeking the most suitable solutions in social policies has been most seriously affected by the economic crisis, while 44.7 percent of those asked blamed the flaws in the social sphere on the wasting of public money in general. Nearly one-third of the respondents said that the social situation is greatly complicated by the high level of taxes and deductions. TASR
