A non-profit organisation, the Slovak Governance Institute (SGI) which promotes transparent and effective public services, has launched an on-line petition urging lawmakers to amend next year's draft government budget which has not yet been acted on in the Slovak parliament, the TASR newswire reported.
Its petition has the phrase “So that we are not left indebted, stupid and without jobs” and SGI is asking MPs to set up a fund to provide state aid for strategic investments in sophisticated industries in Slovakia's less-developed regions, to increase allocations for schools and universities, and to provide a basic package for bankrolling science at least equalling the level of 2009.
“It's an internet petition that is special in that the signatories have sent emails with the petition message to all MPs who are members of the budgetary and education committees in parliament,” said SGI board chairman Miroslav Beblavý to TASR. The petition can be found on the SGI.sk website and thus far has collected 275 signatures. TASR
