Only 11 legislators, including parliament’s Vice-Chair Anna Belousovová, were present in the body towards the end of the session on Wednesday, December 2 during discussions on property disclosure by public officials, the TASR newswire reported.
“We have politicians, public officials, who are contemptuous of the public interest,” said independent MP Gábor Gál to TASR in the near-empty chamber amid discussion regarding an amendment to the Constitutional Act that concerns protection of the public interest in the work of public officials.
As far as the remaining missing 10 MPs are concerned, only the proposal's rapporteur - Vladimir Miššík (from the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union, SDKÚ) commented on the initiative, pledging his backing for the proposal.
Another amendment to the same Act has been submitted by SDKÚ MPs Stanislav Janiš and Ján Golian. “Both amendments aim at introducing a greater deal of transparency into property disclosure,” said Janiš, who proposes that local administration officials, too, be obliged to disclose their annual property declarations.
