SLOVAKIA is significantly lagging behind the EU average in the number of households with internet access. Only 27 percent of households were connected to the internet in the first quarter of 2006, while just 11 percent of households had broadband Internet access.
Slovakia thus placed the second from last on Eurostat's chart on the level of internet usage within the
EU. The country placing last was Greece with 23 percent of households having internet connections.
On average, 52 percent of EU households were connected to the Internet and 32 percent of households had access to broadband Internet connections.
Slovakia was more successful in the category of company internet usage. As many as 93 percent of Slovak firms were connected to the internet at the beginning of this year and 61 percent of companies had broadband connections.
On average, 94 percent of companies in the EU had access to the Internet and as many as 75 had broadband connections.
