A MVK agency poll carried out for the daily SME revealed that approximately 36 percent of employees are satisfied with their work but 45 percent are dissatisfied with their salaries, the daily reported.
According to the survey, 70 percent of respondents said they would go to work when they are sick or they would use their vacation days as sick leave.
Employers provide relatively few benefits for their employees. More than 63 percent said that apart from their normal monthly salary they do not receive a 13 or 14th month's salary, and no contribution to their holiday either.
Sociologist Pavel Haulík told the daily that although the results of the survey are not favourable they did not surprise him. "Regarding to the real situation in Slovakia, the unemployment rate and availability of jobs, people are not in a position to choose the work they want," he said.
He added that in Bratislava people are more demanding. They choose their jobs more carefully and have greater expectations as regards salaries. In other places people are happy if they can find work at the minimum wage.
Haulík said he found it alarming that people work when they are sick.
