Slovaks did not feel the tremors caused by an earthquake which struck eastern Austria on April 25. The Earth Science Institute of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (SAV) received only three macroseismic questionnaires from Bratislava, proving trembles were felt on higher floors of buildings.
“Two of the questionnaires came from Petržalka borough, while the third one was from Karlova Ves,” Andrej Cipciar of SAV told the TASR newswire.
If the earthquake had occurred at night or in early morning, and not at midday when it is busier, people would have been more perceptive to the trembling, he added.
The epicentre of the earthquake which occurred at 12:28 was near the village of Alland, situated 30 kilometres southwest of Vienna. Nearly all seismologic stations in Slovakia recorded it, Cipciar added.
Referring to the Austrian Zentralanstalt für Meteorologie und Geodynamik (ZAMG), the APA newswire reported that the earthquake caused only minor damage to buildings in eastern Austria. Moreover, at least 1,800 people reported they felt the tremors to ZAMG, APA wrote.
