There will be no change to the opening hours of bars and restaurants in Bratislava’s Old Town for now. The district’s councillors were to decide on October 25 whether to override the veto of Mayor Radoslav Števčík, who did not sign the decision limiting opening hours issued in September but the mayor withdrew it from the session.
The councillors originally wanted to restrict the official opening hours in the Old Town to 22:00 or, in case of meeting some technical requirements, to 24:00 on week days and until 1:00 during the weekend.
Števčík considered it pointless to discuss the matter when there was nothing new. He allegedly made the decision after talking to several councillors, as reported by the TASR newswire.
Some of them, however, said they had not known about the issue and that they would like to hear the information they should have been dealing with. The district’s authority should know what is happening and what it can do, according to councillor Matej Vagač.
The councillors will discuss the restrictions to opening hours again in December or next January. Currently, two sets of documents are being prepared for the session, Števčík said. One of them will deal with the rules and time of sales in shops, while the other should deal with the opening hours of bars and restaurants, TASR wrote.
