On March 26, the three parliamentary opposition parties agreed to propose a no-confidence vote in parliament to try to force the abdication of Economy Minister Ľubomír Jahnátek. The parties will submit their proposition on April 10.
The head of the opposition Slovak Democratic and Christian Union, former Prime Minister Mikuláš Dzurinda, said they want to push for Jahnátek's dismissal because Prime Minister Robert Fico refused to take any action against the minister, who spoke openly about the need to use ‘non-traditional business methods’ when selling military equipment to developing countries.
In an interview with the Trend economic weekly, Jahnátek spoke about state companies using illegal funds to ‘buy’ their business partners. However, Jahnátek claimed his words were misinterpreted and said it was the journalist who used the words "black money" and "kickbacks."
