MP Martin Pado from the opposition SDKÚ party said on Thursday, July 2, that the penalty imposed by Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák on woman police officer Ľudmila Nováková, who was allegedly the target of verbal abuse and insult from Slovak National Party (SNS) leader Ján Slota in the parliament’s garage in April, was correct, the TASR newswire wrote.
Pado, a former interior minister Pado said that Kaliňák showed in this way that even though the police officer attempts to reveal things that are unlawful, the officers must not violate internal regulations.
The Interior Ministry told TASR that Nováková proceeded according to the regulations but was sanctioned for causing a leak of official information when she let the media know about her encounter with the SNS leader. She admitted providing such information to a third unauthorised party.
Nováková was penalised by a 10-percent deduction from one month of her salary, but will continue to work for the Officials Protection Office, Department of Premises Protection.
According to the information published in the media, Slota's personal driver tried to enter the parliamentary garage after 20:00 on April 28 but did not have a valid identification card on him. Nováková refused to let him in. Slota then came into the garage and allegedly spoke to her in a vulgar manner. Slota said that he did get angry but didn't use the words reported by Nováková. TASR
