THE OPPOSITION already has the backing of 69 MPs in its effort to recall Education Minister Martin Fronc and is thus just seven votes away from the needed quorum to force the minister to step down, the Pravda daily reported.

The opposition and some independent MPs support Fronc's recall. Talks will continue with more independent MPs and some coalition parties to reach the required number.

The ruling New Citizen's Alliance (ANO) may support the recall. The party has criticized Fronc strongly over the problems in the secondary school leaving exams. However, the leader of ANO, Pavol Rusko, says that despite the objections ANO has towards Fronc, his party would not vote against the minister.

The vote would be a secret ballot. The opposition thus hopes that some MPs will vote as they want and go against party lines.

Another ruling partner party, the Hungarian Coalition Party (SMK), will also be contacted. SMK's Miklós Duray has already said that he would not follow the coalition line.
