All three parliamentary opposition parties have submitted a no-confidence motion against Labour Minister Viera Tomanová in parliament.
The head of the opposition Christian Democratic Movement parliamentary club, Mária Sabolová, said that Tomanová has failed as a minister.
Jozef Mikuš of the opposition Slovak Democratic and Christian Union explained that the opposition parties had to submit the no-confidence motion because Tomanová's proposals are misleading Slovaks. He added that he knows the motion does not have a chance if the governing coalition parties will not support it.
MP Gyula Bárdos of the opposition Hungarian Coalition Party agreed that the parliamentary balance of power cannot be defeated. He said he considers it the opposition's duty to react to the minister's behaviour. Speaker of Parliament Pavol Paška is required to convene a parliamentary session within seven days of the motion being filed.
The opposition mainly criticises Tomanová's efforts to patch the hole in the social security provider Sociálna Poisťovňa's budget by amending the rules of participation in the second pension pillar, thus leaving hundreds of thousands of citizens who are saving for their pensions insecure. The opposition has also accused her of cronyism, because she granted a subsidy to an organisation that she used to work for before she became labour minister. - SITA
