Mobile phone operators Orange Slovensko and Slovak Telekom have made their one-off payments to extend their mobile communication licences for ten more years, Roman Vavro, the spokesman for Slovakia’s Telecommunications Office (TO), told the TASR newswire.
Orange paid €40.686 million on December 9 while Slovak Telekom paid €47.766 million on September 5. The money is considered revenue to the state budget and the license extensions were initially issued to the operators in the summer.
"Slovak Telekom's Board has decided that company will make use of relevant procedural actions in order to have the Telecommunications Office decisions examined, by which it decided to prolong the validity of licenses for use of frequencies," ST’s spokesman Andrej Gargulák told the SITA newswire.
The only possibility to review the authority's decision, according to lawyers approached by SITA, is by filing an action before a court.
The daily Sme wrote in its December 13 issue that both companies will use all legal means to have the decision of the TO scrutinised, stating that first the operators can challenge the process with the country’s prosecutor, who can file an appeal against the process. If the TO does not comply with the appeal then the operators can turn to a court, Sme wrote.
