Trenčín was allowed to brew and sell beer, elect parsons, or organise annual markets only based on royal charters which confirmed these privileges for the town. Their originals are stored in the Trenčín branch of the State Archives. On the occasion of the 600th anniversary since the charter bestowing the privileges of the free royal town was signed by Emperor Sigismund of Luxembourg, the archives opened its doors for a single day, Trenčín’s spokesperson Erika Ságová informed the TASR newswire. She added that on this day the public were able to see the otherwise carefully hidden documents, more than five centuries old. The last chance to do so before this day was in 1997. The anniversary was also commemorated with a little celebration, re-enacting the visit of Sigismund to Trenčín.
