OBSERVERS from the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) will arrive in Slovakia two weeks before the June 12 parliamentary election to monitor several aspects of the campaign and the balloting itself, the Sme daily reported.
The observers from the OSCE were invited to do so by Slovakia. But it will not be a standard OSCE mission such as those undertaken for problematic elections in countries such as Belarus. The OSCE mission to Slovakia will review campaign financing by the political parties and monitor whether there is any vote-buying among Roma citizens, as this problem was noted during last year’s regional elections.
A group of OSCE officials has already visited Slovakia and prepared a report which recommended that the observer mission be dispatched to Slovakia, Sme wrote.
