A plane carrying Palestinian refugees who had been granted protection by Slovakia landed at the Košice airport on August 26, the Interior Ministry's spokeswoman, Ľudmila Stanová, told SITA.
The Slovak cabinet, the Office of the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees and the International Organization for Migration agreed on the stay of the Palestinian refugees in Slovakia, signing the corresponding document on July 20.
The refugees were initially placed in al-Waleed, a refugee camp in the deserts of Iraq near the Syrian Border, where they suffered from poor conditions. The group of 98 people consists mostly of families with children. Their stay in Slovakia is temporary. After six moths they will be relocated to third countries. The stay will cost more than €362,862 and Slovakia's Interior Ministry will cover the costs. SITA
