Marek Zakuťanský from Košice carried the Paralympics flame before the official opening of the Paralympics, the Olympic Games for disabled persons in Vancouver, on March 12. He works for the Allianz insurance company and he won the trip to the Paralympics in a company contest for the best employee. Along with him, Jeanne Meyers of Chicago enjoyed the special moment. They were the only ones from among Allianz employees who got this chance. Apart from them, dozens of people, including athletes and locals, got the chance to carry the Paralympics flame.
“I got the flame from a man on a wheelchair,” Zakuťanský said. “I started running but was warned to slow down. In fact, it was not a run but rather a walk with the flame… After about three hundred meters, I handed it over to Jeanne,” he said adding that he admired disabled people who are not broken by their fate and who go in for some sport. He said it was great to feel being a part of a good cause, of something really great. Paralympics Committee news release
