The Slovak Parliament on Thursday, December 13 approved the draft state budget for 2013. Out of 146 MPs present, 82 voted for the draft, with 64 against.

Parliament also passed two proposed amendments to the budget filed by the ruling Smer party: the first one includes extra measures to cover the newly forecast shortfall in tax and levy revenues in the budget; the second includes an increase in teachers’ salaries by 5 percent. Four draft amendments filed by the opposition – which, among other things, proposed to increase teachers’ incomes by 10 percent – were not passed. The TASR newswire reported that the deficit will reach €3.085 billion, with total revenues amounting to €13.9 and total expenditures amounting to €17 billion.
