The relationship between retail chains and their suppliers will no longer be regulated by law as of August 1. On Tuesday, June 28, the ruling coalition voted to override President Ivan Gašparovič's veto on the law on ‘inappropriate business relations’ approved during the term of Robert Fico, the previous prime minister. The law was aimed at preventing retail chains from abusing their power over suppliers.
The government of Iveta Radičová approved the abolition of the law in January, the SITA newswire wrote. The Economy Ministry believes that its cancellation will improve the business environment for the food supplies sector and curb the regulatory burden on businesses operating within it.
