The Slovak parliament began debating a draft amendment to the Labour Code on June 27.
Opposition and coalition views on the revision differ significantly. PM Robert Fico considers it an important step towards establishing a modern European model, while the opposition perceives it as pushing Slovakia into the past by reducing market flexibility.
MPs from the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ) plan to support the opposition view. “We will vote for all amendments that improve the Labour Code, and make sure this revision does as minimal damage as possible,” former finance minister Ivan Mikloš said.
