THE Slovak Parliament did not agree on September 28 to withdraw Slovakia's military troops from Iraq as proposed by two opposition Communist KSS party MPs, Dagmar Bollová and Karol Ondriaš.
The two MPs also suggested that the government should co-operate with other countries at the international level in providing civil humanitarian aid to Iraq under the auspices of the United Nations, the Red Cross and the Red Crescent, reported news wire TASR.
Bollová and Ondriaš said the withdrawal would not have any serious political consequences despite Slovakia's membership in NATO, since it was NATO who refused to take command of such a dubious operation.
Only 20 out of the 106 votes in parliament supported the proposal. Fifty-eight were against, and 25 MPs abstained.
