The parliamentary committee for agriculture and the environment on Wednesday, December 2, approved a proposal submitted by opposition Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ) MP Pavol Frešo to conduct a parliamentary inquiry into the Slovak Land Fund (SPF) on December 8, the TASR newswire wrote.
Parliament has not yet decided on the fate of five of the Fund's council members, who are chosen and dismissed by parliament based on a committee proposal in line with the principle of proportional representation of the parliamentary parties.
The government on Wednesday dismissed SPF general director Miroslav Mihálik (a Smer nominee) and his deputy Adrian Sandorčin (from the Movement for a Democratic Slovakia - HZDS). On the same day, Fico submitted a proposal to dismiss the six SPF members who were appointed by the government.
Independent MP Zsolt Simon submitted a proposal to dismiss the remaining five members at the committee session but this did not sit well with most of the committee members. According to committee chairman Jozef Ďuračka (Slovak National Party, SNS), a parliamentary inquiry into SPF should take place before any such step is taken.
“The five members are nominees of oarliament and the parliamentary caucuses. We need to have an inquiry first. We can't just sit here and pass such a proposal on to parliament," he said, as quoted by TASR. TASR
