László Nagy, the chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for Human Rights and deputy of the opposition Hungarian Coalition Party, has opposed the revision of the Act on Church Registration, which was submitted by Ján Podmanický and Ľudmila Mušková, two deputies of the ruling coalition Smer and the Movement for a Democratic Slovakia parties.
The cabinet approved the amendment and other members of the parliamentary committee also voted in favour of the revision. Nagy pointed out that the authors of the revision prepared a restrictive proposal at the time when Prosecutor General Dobroslav Trnka filed two complaints against the currently effective law at the Slovak Constitutional Court. He claims that the current act may be at odds with the constitution, and that the revision tightens the rules of church registration even further.
