Parliament’s Mandate and Immunity Committee will look into the slap across the face that Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) MP Igor Matovič received from Slovak National Party (SNS) vice-chair Anna Belousovová a week ago, committee head Gábor Gál said on Tuesday, August 17, the TASR newswire reported.
The committee will deal with the assault on September 2, said Gál, who did not want to discuss the matter with the two people involved anywhere but at a committee session. “I’m no mediator or justice of the peace. I’m an MP and this isn’t my business. I’ll deal with this within my powers based on the rules of procedure,” Gál said.
“I'd be happy to see it dropped from the agenda,” Matovič said last week, asking his colleague Natália Blahová, the SaS MP who filed the motion, to do so. Blahová refused, however, and so the committee will look into the incident. Belousovová hit Matovič for calling her ‘Anča’, a name which she perceived as being pejorative, in a newspaper article. She defended her actions by saying that she was only attempting to explain to Matovič how he should treat a lady.
