Problems involving party funding for 2007 - in particular, the recent “cash in a plastic bag” claims affecting the HZDS – and the way they are reported in partys’ annual financial statements could lead to a change in legislation. The Parliamentary Finance Committee has submitted to parliament a draft revision to the Act on Political Parties and Movements, which makes some provisions more specific, the SITA newswire wrote.
If the revision comes into force, political parties would be allowed to accept only one financial donation per year in cash from each donor, up to a maximum value of €5,000 (Sk150,063). A party could accept a gift on the basis of a written contract, for which the signature of the donor would need to be verified on the day the contract was signed or on the day the gift wass provided, at the latest.
Parties would be obliged to publish a list of donors on their websites. The list would feature the first name, the surname and the permanent address of private individual donors, as well as a business name and address for corporate donations, and the value of the financial gift. SITA
