Cycling star Peter Sagan is set to be the main attraction of parliament's Open House on Constitution Day (September 1), a national holiday in Slovakia, the TASR newswire learnt on Saturday, August 25.
The Open House this year will include something new – a Bratislava Castle Time Trial sponsored by Speaker of Parliament Pavol Paška. Ordinary cycling fans can take part in the competition, and they will be able to compare their results with the winner of the points’ classification at this year's Tour de France. Competitors can apply via the web site of the Slovak Cycling Union.
"The time trial will take place between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., with people able to watch the race along Palisády Street. The track will lead from the historic parliament building on Župné Square, go by the President's Palace, through Palisady with the finish line under the Svätopluk statue on the courtyard of Bratislava Castle," Parliament Office Press Department director Soňa Potheová told TASR. The top three cyclists will be awarded prizes, while all participants will be given small gifts from Sagan's team Liquigas. The programme of the Open House will continue with a debate marathon at the Castle's Music Hall. The discussion will be focused on the past 20 years of Slovak politics from the point of view of the Constitution and constitutional practice, said Potheová. The Open House in Parliament will be held from 9:00 to 15:00.
