Corruption, the murder of Ján Kuciak and his fiancée Martina Kušnírová, as well as the changes to the government are the biggest problems in Slovakia, according to the respondents of the Median poll carried out for Yale University.
The poll by the Median agency from April 5 to 6 questioned 415 respondents, 214 from the general population and 201 from among the protest participants, the Sme daily wrote on April 17.
Corruption is the biggest thorn in people’s sides
The poll suggests that many people in both groups are dissatisfied with the previous government of Robert Fico: in the former it is 93 percent, while in the latter they represent 70 percent. Both groups consider corruption the biggest problem in Slovakia (almost one-half the general population). From among the protesters, Kuciak’s murder and the change in government are perceived as the biggest problems.
Among those who attended recent protests, most would pick the opposition OĽaNO party in the case of election, followed closely by – also opposition – the SaS party. In the general population, the ruling Smer party would be elected by 16 percent, while OĽaNO would end up second, Sme summed up.
