IN PROTEST at the murder of 21-year-old philosophy student Daniel Tupý on November 4, who was most likely killed by a group of neo-Nazis, gatherings across the country took place with thousands of people attending and lighting candles for the victim.
In Bratislava an estimated 4,000-5,000 people protested, starting in Hodžovo square near the Presidential Palace and later marching through the Old Town to the Petržalka side of the Danube River to Tyršovo nábrežie, where Tupý was stabbed to death.
Apart from regular people, several officials, politicians, artists, and other well-known Slovaks attended the gathering in Bratislava, the Pravda daily wrote.
Protesters signed a petition calling on Interior Minister Vladimír Palko to make sure that the police take strong action against neo-Nazis.
People in Košice, Zvolen and Prešov also gathered to commemorate the victim.
