People will protest against corruption in Prague in addition to Bratislava. The Slovaks living in the Czech capital confirmed that the public meeting will take place in front of the Slovak embassy building on the same day when the third anti-corruption march will be held in Bratislava: September 25.
The organisers explained that they arrived to Bratislava from Prague to attend the first march on April 18. After announcing the second protest, an organisation team was spontaneously created and it declared support for the protest march’s organisers. The team then organised a protest held in front of the Slovak Embassy in Prague on June 5, the TASR newswire reported.
The organisers of the Prague protest are convinced that the older generation of politicians has exhausted the topics and trust of people, and that it is a time for a radical change of political elites and for new challenges for the younger generation.
“We want space for modern ideas that will move Slovakia forward,” said their spokesperson Samuel Zubo, as quoted by TASR. “We want a quality life for the older generation as well as the following generations. We are able to clearly say how our society should develop – in favour of all Slovakia’s citizens.”
The students organising the protest march in Bratislava have similar requests to the previous two marches. They want the proper investigation of scandals like Bašternák and Gorilla, the dismissal of Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák (Smer) and Police Corps President Tibor Gašpar, and a resignation of Special Prosecutor Dušan Kováčik.
They also launched an anti-corruption petition already signed by 70,000 people, TASR reported.
