Slovakia's Personal Data Protection Office (ÚOOÚ) wants to distance itself from the politicisation of the ongoing census in Slovakia, according to a statement issued to the media by ÚOOÚ chairman Gyula Veszelei on Thursday, May 26.
"ÚOOÚ emphasises that the opinion dispute that has emerged between ÚOOÚ and the Statistics Office concerned the untrue and inaccurate information provided to citizens by the Statistics Office during the collection of their personal data," said Veszelei for the TASR newswire. He blamed the media which he thinks accidentally or deliberately twisted an initial statement by his office.
"In its statements, ÚOOÚ did not recommend that citizens not paste the identification number, only draw the issue to the Statistics Office's attention – and that is a considerable difference," he said.
