Major-General Peter Vojtek will become the new Chief-of-General-Staff of the Slovak Armed Forces, replacing Ľubomír Bulík, the government agreed on November 30, as reported by the TASR newswire.
Vojtek is currently serving as training and support commander in the Armed Forces. Bulík's term in office will end on December 15 with Vojtek replacing him the next day. The appointment must still be approved by President Ivan Gašparovič, TASR wrote.
Bulík, who served as Chief-of-General-Staff for the past seven years was originally due to resign from his post on December 1 following a mutual agreement with former Defence Minister Ľubomír Galko from Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) party.
The proposal nominating Vojtek was submitted to the government by Prime Minister Iveta Radičová, who was authorized to head the Defence Ministry after Galko was dismissed, the SITA newswire wrote.
