PETER Petrus left his post as the spokesperson for President Andrej Kiska on September 23, of his own accord, the Sme.sk website reported.
“It happened after our mutual agreement with the president,” Petrus, who for years worked as a reporter for private broadcaster TV JOJ, told Sme.sk. “I thank the president for the opportunity, I acquired new experiences, but journalism is still very close to me and I miss it.”
Petrus added he was not able to get accustomed to the work in his new position. However, he has not said where he will work next.
“I reckoned that the work of a spokesperson is largely tied to the necessary clerical procedures,” Petrus continued. “But I found out that in practice I would probably not get used to it, and therefore I consider my removal from the post a fair solution; fair to the president, to the public and to myself.”
He also said that they “parted with a smile”, since his cooperation with Kiska was without problems.
As of September 23, Roman Krpelan, head of the communication department of the Presidential Office, will be responsible for communication with the media. Krpelan is a former deputy editor-in-chief for the Sme daily.
