The firm is also looking at sites in Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic. The factory would employ 3,000 and eventually turn out 300,000 vehicles a year, raising Peugeot’s production overall from 3.25 million this year to 4 million.

The company now has three factories in France, and plans to open another in the Czech Kolín in 2005.
