An aeroplane owned by courier and logistics operator DHL veered off the runway at Bratislava Airport shortly after 5:00 on Friday, November 16. Pictures from the scene showed the plane with its nose and engines resting on the ground, suggesting it had suffered a failure of its front landing gear. Nobody was hurt in the accident, airport spokesperson Dana Madunická stated via a media release.
Airport and city rescue services were despatched to the scene, as the aircraft was reported to be transporting low-level radioactive materials, the SITA newswire reported. “The transported goods are not dangerous to the environment, [and] neither fuel nor other fluids leaked [from the plane],” Madunická said.
Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák said that the goods carried by the plane were a normal delivery of materials used in medical X-ray devices, SITA wrote.
Madunická stated that the incident had not affected normal airport operations and that all other flights were arriving and departing on time.
