A PUBLIC exhibition of urban and architectural designs has opened in Bratislava’s Primate’s Palace on January 8 to present future planning ideas for Staromestská Street, which runs from the Danube River to Hodžovo Square. The displays are intended to involve the public in the search for a solution to long-running problems with the street, the SITA newswire wrote.
The proposals will be on show until the end of January. In all, 15 architects and architects’ studios have taken part.
Some of them propose sending traffic underground and converting the surface to a green pedestrian zone; other propose a redesign of the street’s present canyon-like appearance.
The designs are the result of an expert workshop organised by the city last year.
The aim of the workshop was, according to Bratislava Chief Architect Štefan Šlachta, not to find specific solutions, and so the design has yet to be finalised, SITA reported.
Citizens can make comments, notes or proposals on the city’s website (www.bratislava.sk) or can write them directly in the comments book at the exhibition until the end of this month.
By then, a bigger discussion concerning the proposed changes is planned. Using the popular feedback, a master plan for the area will be developed in stages.
The plan will later be implemented by the Old Town District Council, which includes Staromestská, though the final decision will not be made in the near future, SITA wrote, quoting responsible officials.
The exhibition can be viewed on the ground floor of the Primate’s Palace every day from 14:00 to 19:00.
